Practical ways of experiencing God’s love….

Sometimes we are going through difficult days of trauma, grief and sadness. It is so important to know that we are loved by God, whatever we are going through.

I have written some things down here, some things that have helped me:

  1. To read or listen to some verses from the bible- psalm 23- a reminder that God is our Shepherd, or psalm 91 about God sending His angels to help us. John 14:27 Jesus promising of the gift of peace, or Matthew 11:28-30 speaks of Jesus calling the storm..
  2. Sometimes listening to Christian music can soothe our souls- Lauren Daigle singing Rescue, You say or Rescue. Andrew Peterson songs like Be kind to yourself, My one safe place, After the last tear falls. Casting Crowns Just be held, Praise you in the storm, Love moved first.                                                                                                                    Other artists to consider are Laura Story, Nicole Nordeman, Rend Collective, Mercy me.
  3. Prayer- talk to God as you are, just pour out your heart to Him. He listens to you with attentive love.  Sometimes we struggle to pray, and apps like Abide or Pray as you go, can be very helpful to listen to.                                                                                              Finding a place to pray, and favourite chair, maybe a symbolic item like a cross or candle can be a helpful focus. Journalling or writing out prayers can be healing.
  4. Noticing how our bodies are doing is important, if we need rest or are overdue a doctor’s appointment. Breathing techniques, exercise or a practice like Capacitar can help- https://capacitar.org.
  5. If you are feeling low, or struggling with anxiety or stress, please always talk to a trusted friend, family member, your GP or a charity like the Samaritans, so you can get the best help.

God is full of light and love. He sees our struggles, and wants to lavish His love upon us, so we can find forgiveness, healing and peace. May we know the loving arms of Jesus Christ around us, and possibilities of new beginnings through His Holy Spirit. Together, we gather under God’s umbrella of healing love, to find the healing and purpose we seek. Amen.
